One of the most consequential actions in defense of free speech happened today, courtesy of libertarian entrepreneur Elon Musk.

After becoming Twitter’s biggest shareholder, being invited to the board, and then declining that position, Musk has now launched an effort to buy Twitter outright at 43 billion dollars, coming in at $54.20 per share. Mr. Musk is the richest man on the planet, with a reported worth of $300 billion.

On Tuesday, the iconoclast businessman sent a letter to the Twitter board chair making clear his intention and the reasoning behind it:

“I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy.

However, since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.

As a result, I am offering to buy 100 percent of Twitter for $54.20 per share in cash, a 54 percent premium over the day before I began investing in Twitter and a 38 percent premium over the day before my investment was publicly announced. My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder.

Twitter has extraordinary potential. I will unlock it.”

This situation can be easily mistaken as an important sidebar Big Tech story involving interesting personalities. But it is something much more than that. For too many years, Americans have observed one of the most promising developments in technology turn into just another woke and partisan platform. It’s been shameful to watch social media in general and Twitter in the particular shift from being an American townhall to just another woke outlet bent on censoring conservatives and pushing leftist and Democratic narratives.

The bigger problem was when it became apparent there was a deliberate transformation changing Twitter from a communication platform into a partisan weapon. The banning of politicians, stories, media outlets, and so many others because they challenged the establishment orthodoxy was worthy of a third-world banana republic. It was the manifestation of Group Think and what happens when a group of people believe they have sole possession of the truth.

The left and their water carriers the Democratic Party understand the American public does not want what they’re selling, but they don’t care. They have determined the only way they can gain and maintain power is by lying to voters about their goals and intentions. And at the very least, making their marginal extremism appear mainstream by snuffing out all genuine debate and other ideas.

At first, they took control of legacy media. But that wasn’t enough when social media platforms appeared, and those, too, were co-opted into partisan machines with the goal of removing and silencing conservative voices by defaming them as ‘hate groups’ or liars or general menaces.

Controlling the narrative is what drives the left and they were well on their way to completely consuming social communication writ large.

The reaction to Musk’s buyout offer confirms its importance and how intensely the establishment has relied on controlling the public political and cultural narratives through Big Tech.

Web magazine Axios posted panicked coverage titled, “Elon Musk Goes Into Full Goblin Mode,” with their tweet revealing the degree of their meltdown: “The world’s richest man — someone who used to be compared to Marvel’s Iron Man — is increasingly behaving like a movie supervillain, commanding seemingly unlimited resources with which to finance his mischief-making.”

So ending censorship is “mischief-making” according to Axios. Good to know.

Max Boot, a Never-Trumper Washington Post columnist, still nursing bitterness and loathing, tweeted this at the news: “I am frightened by the impact on society and politics if Elon Musk acquires Twitter. He seems to believe that on social media, anything goes. For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less.”

Why so frightened of some people not being canceled, banned, and censored? America was founded on freedom and the First Amendment yet the left seems to believe it can only survive if we crush said freedom and the First Amendment. That’s sort of like explaining we had to destroy a village in order to save it.

The manic pearl-clutching by those enjoying having their boot on the necks of irritating Americans who dare to not conform or take a knee to whatever the current ‘thing’ is are indeed quite shocked by all of this. Today is finally a day when the machine may realize that we’ve all, including Elon Musk, have had enough.

Elon Musk‘s willingness to step into this arena due in large part to the censorship of the American people by a few ‘elites’ is an inspiring moment for all of us. It is a reminder that the American spirit and commitment to freedom still lives, despite so many desperate attempts by a societal bureaucracy to crush it.

No wonder the left is obsessed with annihilating “billionaires.” It must be very frustrating for those extremists to have to deal with someone who has enough money to get things done and who is immune to their threats of destruction.

There is no guarantee that Musk’s bid to buy Twitter outright will succeed. While the board has a fiduciary duty to consider the offer as serious and generous, various large shareholders are invested in what Twitter has been doing and would likely loathe losing it. They will fight. But so will Musk. This is the free speech equivalent of the moon shot. Even with the unknowns and the risk, it must be done because not doing it is even more dangerous.

Do not think it will happen, but saw a cartoon today that had —–Donald Trump —-as CEO with the new Twitter company. Humor or real, still makes you think.

Nice definition of group think. They have sole possession of the truth. We’ll see what happens. Twitter is too far gone- I think it’s a waste of time. Gettr is better.

It would be humorous if it weren’t so sad that people like Max Boot (a fool, but with quite a few followers) proclaims that democracy requires more censorship. Perhaps he hasn’t read any of the political history of the last couple centuries?
Twitter users who believe in individual freedoms, especially in the 1st amendment, should push twitter to read the definition of fiduciary and sell the company to Elon.

Elon should just start his own media, I am sure it would be cheaper and most likely millions would sign right up and be members

Since Elon Musk cannot become president of the U.S., how about we make him the nation’s CEO? It’s painfully obvious that Elon Musk has the interests of all American citizens at heart more than political representatives do. no censorship.

Musk has become a beacon of hope for Free Speech and conservatives. I hope he is all that we’re hoping for. We need these huge companies to stop falling in line with the Democrats and be loyal to the people and the country that built them. It wasn’t socialism that built them, it was free enterprise. They are fools to allow Dems to push them around. They’ll be destroyed under socialism-communism, no one thrives under it but the elites at the top, and Democrats plan to be those…

It’s a public scandal or not acceptable and requires an investigation, if a non elite good ole boy liberal wants to buy a corporation. Good for Elon Musk! Go get em!

I left social media & don’t miss it! Twitter, Insta & FB can all go Google themselves! New platforms will arise that will out shine, outperform & speak for all people regardless of their platforms! That’s what true “free” speech was intended for! God Bless America! ????????

I am one of those super-delighted individuals who uses neither twitter or facebook and I miss
nothing. How delightful it is to spend hours of every day living life instead of being addicted
to the little box. The world is not in the box. Its outside of it. I have an iphone and a laptop and
am considering throwing both of them in the garbage. They give me nothing except 2 monthly
bills.

There may be one problem with this. I don’t know how true it is, if at all, but I read somewhere that he wants to also convert it to a subscription based service which, if true, would not bode well for freedom of speech for those who either cannot afford to pay for it or are unwilling to do so.

Since Tesla has been around, selling electric cars to all that can afford. Making the Green energy enthusiasts giddy, Elon Musk is their hero. Ahhhh , clean energy at last ! ( I won’t get into natural gas, that’s a story for another day ) Fast forward, and now Elon Musk is a Nazi , he’s been called the Hitler of all Hitlers. Obviously there’s some Americans that can’t stand free speech . Our cherished 1st Amendment. I’ve read that some of you don’t trust Elon Musk . My opinion what Elon Musk is proposing to do is Immense ! Time to join Twitter, and do some tweeting .

I am so excited about this! This is his best move to date. Electric cars seem wonderful, but you still have to mine lithium and it limits travel and is about as dangerous as gasoline. Wind mills need coal, from what I have heard, as well as the fact they are ugly and kill birds and freeze up in storms as evidenced by the Texas storm. Solar energy fries birds and insects in the sky. Why can’t we get the device I have heard about for years that will give all free energy? Yes, free speech is important and I am amazed at the brilliance of Elon Musk. I would probably have the same reaction meeting him as I would meeting beings that seeded this world. Speechless. Perhaps this is the catalyst to bring other brilliant minds to share ideas and make this world a paradise

The elites think they should be able to tell everyone what they can and cannot do because they are the rich elites and because they are they obviously know all there is to know about running the world. Therefore, we should just bow before them and say “yes sir” and “yes madam” and just scurry about doing exactly what they say. No questions allowed. Sound a lot like the mid 1800s, don’t you think? Maybe history does repeat itself.

I think the DemocRat Commies are referring him as “Muskrat”…. meaning he is Sn’t buying in to confining twitter posts to DemocRat propaganda. Seems more and more like anything the DemocRats favor, I’m against. Does seem like more and more people are less influenced by the pride of Delunaware, Joe Hidin’ Biden (& family).

Musk has made a more than fair offer. If the leftists on the board refuse, a man worth $300 billion could easily turn into corporate raider mode and drive the stock down to penny stock. Then the major stakeholders, y’all know that includes career politicians will lose their collective asses. I hope Musk succeeds and the 1st thing he does is reactivate President Trump’s account. Then sit back and watch the leftists heads explode.
Take over Facebook next Mr. Musk.

Elon Musk is playing so far ahead of all the talking heads in the media and government trying to sandbag his attempted takeover of Twitter. The left in this country sees this correctly as a frontal assault on one of the main propaganda outlets for the Democrat Party and other hardcore leftists in this country and they immediately came out swinging on all fronts.

Literally within minutes of Musk making the announcement this morning, the MSM, the Biden administration via vague pronouncements from the SEC and various Democrat mouthpieces came out with a litany of ludicrous and absurd reasons why Elon Musk either can’t be somehow finance the deal (of course he can!) or should be stopped, via government action, from being able to acquire the company. The Democrat Party, the MSM and the federal government are all for free speech, as long as they are the sole deciders and controllers of what speech is allowed to exist and can control who is allowed to speak.

Elon Musk is actually giving us fresh hope. Our media needs to be tamed. If twitter could become more friendly to the different voices and ideas of different types of people, there would be a brighter chance that the USA will once again be more of a Constitutional Republic. The tyrants of the left would have to start working harder at compromising with those folks who still believe that patriotism and secure borders are a fundamental need to preserving our more traditional form of government.

Tammy Bruce rocks. She’s a welcome addition here. Even if musk fails, he’s taken a stick to a den of vipers. Theyre slithering, hissing and rattling. In that case, he would be the guy to set up the infrastructure to challenge the poisonous cesspool known as twitter.
